Interview with Moe of Blood by Dayz

hey, we might want to start with an introduction. Who are you and what do you?

Hey dude, my name is Moe and I am one of the vocalists in BBD. I don't think you're interested in my favourite colour or my sexual affinities but don't be shy to ask haha

Actually i'm pretty interested in your sexual affinities, do you prefer skinny or busty girls, or to quote IBWT: "You like men? you like to dress up like a woman?". What's your 2 cents on that ? haha

my 2 cents on that is that you appear pretty gay to me hahahahaha!!! And to be serious: I especially like female scene kids who send their nude pics to our myspace account.
You'll get a free CD for that, girls!

You started BBD in 2003, how rough was the beginning ?

Well as hard as it gets for some Hardcore new jacks with no clue what that whole thing is about. We were just 3 friends for a long time and we played some Punk and Metal-stuff together in the past, but nothing serious because we weren't really good musicians. At that time we got to know about Hardcore-music but we did not know there is a scene or something. There was no MySpace, no Beatdown-hype and shit and it was pretty hard for us to connect with HC-kids. So we just founded that band and wrote shitty songs while pretending an attitude we didn't know shit about haha! It was pretty tough to get shows and stuff but throughout the years we grew into that scene and we became friends with the guys of Embraced By Hatred. They helped us a lot and I think in our past days they've been a main influence to our music, too. And of course we got better. At least that's what I hope haha

In the early days your music was more stereotype badass beatdown ( along with your rap parts ) but you guys left this image behind ( realized it at 1 of your most recent shows ), how come you focus on having a great time rather than appear tough guys?

I think we did never plan to. No one of us knew about the term "Beatdown" back in the days, we really started from scatch with no clue about anything. We just did SOMETHING haha! Of course the bands we liked at that time were a main influence.... that was like Hatebreed, Throwdown and Madball... the kind of Hardcore you first got into at that time. Of course we tried to sound like them and - yes! - we played music that really sucked, I admit that. But I promise we never tried to follow a hype or something. I think because of the connection to EBH and the fact that they influenced us a lot we had that kind of "Beatdown"-sound. But we got better throughout the years and as the times pass by we tried to do something new. Of course this rap thing in the music is not new but I'm pretty sure we combine these melodic harmonics, the mosh-breaks and the catchy rap hooks and verses in a different way than other artists. You know we always just wanted to play music because that's what we love! We did never plan to change our style, it just grew and got better throughout time and we never wanted to be caged in a specific genre.

How come you didn’t record any full length cd yet and instead went for a split cd? Can we await a new record soon?

That was because we are just lazy fucks. And then there was that Warcity Records deal.... a long story. We were supposed to release an EP there but it never worked and the label broke up. So we had a couple of new songs but no deal. Then Spook Records dropped us a line and asked us to join the Split album. This was a real cool possibility at that time and we're still really grateful for that. There will be a fulllength in 2011, I think. But you will hear some new stuff on MySpace before. Our plan is to hit the studio for a couple of songs this year and then we will search for a label that wants to release our album in 2011.

If you are so lazy, why the fuck do you play your ass off in the last months? We can see you here and there, playing a lot of shows lately

Haha okay maybe we're just lazy if it is about writing new songs, recording shit and stuff. I don't know why but it always takes forever. And about the shows: that is because playing shows is what we love to do! There's nothing better than that man! And it seems like people are more interested in booking a show with us nowadays than in the past haha. When I am on the stage I enjoy each second of that and so we all do. That's why we try to play as often as possible. You never know when we will have to split because of family or job issues.

What do you think about the german hardcore scene and can you compare it to a scene from a foreign country?
Actually when you listen to “One Love” you’ll get the answer, but this song is old and your opinion might have changed

You shouldn't overinterpretate a song like that. Of course there are many retarted stupid people on shows today (too funny must of them celebrate the song "One Love" when we play it because haha). The kind of guys that change their lifestyle once in a while, you know. And this kind of sucks because they pretend to be part of something they just don't know shit about and they probably forget about a year later. So that song is for all those lowlifes. You know, everyone searches for a lifestyle when you're young and of course it is okay to switch your thinking, your scene, your clothes or whatever. But I can't stand this hype thing. You know, when we started we were new jacks, too, but it was much harder to get to know about artists, new albums, shows and shit. Today you just sign in to MySpace, buy a new era, download a ton of music on this mexican
faggot's blogspot and you're Hardcore/Beatdown whatever. And the worst is that everyone starts a band and can play shows no matter how much the music sucks. There is no quality control. As long as it is BEATDOWN the kids smash their faces to the music on shows. That's ridiculous and that's not the way it should be. Back in the days bands had to pave their way through everything. I know that we profit from that hype, too, and I'm grateful we can play shows everywhere and the kids dig our music! But each time I hear about bands like Rest In Butt I'm about to puke! They never earned anything, call themselves Hardcore or whatever and there are even some kids who like their sound.... I mean, c'mon....what is wrong with the kids today? haha.... Okay that was pretty much about the bad things but there are even more cool things about the scene in Germany! There are many really dedicated kids from the east to the west! There are labels like FWH and BDHW which release some of the best bands in hardcore today! There are dudes like Rico17Stitches organizing great shows other countries can dream about! I'm proud to be a part of that whole thing and I'm grateful for all the good times. I know everyone in HC often complains about how worse everything got but I think this is the same old story for years. Some things change, you need to accept that and it's not that bad today! It's hard for me to compare our scene to foreign countries. I just can tell you about the dutch people. they seem to be much more open-minded. We played a couple of shows there and there were metalheads, oldschool-kids and tough guys celebrating a huge party in the pit... stagedives, mosh, singalongs, every fucking thing! It's just my opinion that other countries may not have this total hype depending mosh/beatdown-music but I can't tell you that. You should talk to guys like Nils/Axel FWH or Rico because they are into hardcore for years now and they can tell you more about that.

Talking bout those guys who celebrate "One Love" so much and yet fit perfectly into the scheme the lyrics deal about...What do you say when those guys come and want to talk about what hardcore and shows means to them HAHA ?

Actually none of these people ever tried to explain to us how Hardcore they are. And if so I would just let them talk haha. I'm not interested in arguing with people and trying to show them how silly their behaviour is. We have statements to that hype thing in our lyrics so the people know what we’re about, that’s what is important to me. In the end all that scene bullshit doesn’t even matter. And sometimes it's hard to tell the fake kids from the cool kids, too, you know. If someone is new in the scene he might talk shit, tries to fit in and he might do things he will regret some years later. That's all part of growing into the scene.

Thanks a lot man, that's about it! Hope to see you guys around soon

Thank you, too, man and good luck with your webzine. It's cool to see that there are people who care and try to do something for this scene. That's the only way it works! Last words: BUY CDs!

INTRODUCING THE PRETTY BAD WEBZINE ABOUT HARDCORE AND SHOWS IN GERMANY

I'll start this blog thing to contribute something to our german hardcore surrounding. I'm not a good musician nor am I artistic in any way, so the only thing i can do is spread the word.

Consider this Webzine as a way to release news about upcoming and former shows, album releases, interviews and casual issues such as fat women, who's not cool at the moment and how much heads nazis give.
